Nancy Byl brings over 42 years of experience as a physical therapist and researcher to Posit Science. She is interested in learning-based neurological rehabilitation for patients who have focal dystonia, integrative balance disorders, hemiparesis post-stroke, or neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease. She is actively involved in clinical research related to neuroplasticity, specifically effective strategies for sensorimotor retraining to decrease patients' pain, improve fine motor control and maximize general function. She also cares for patients in the outpatient physical therapy faculty practice and has a special clinical interest in repetitive strain injury, chronic pain and hand dystonia. Dr. Byl earned her undergraduate degree in physical therapy at UCSF. At the University of California Berkeley, she earned a Masters in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Education.
