What is DriveSharp?
DriveSharp is an interactive software program that trains the brain to process and react faster when driving. This results in a driver’s ability to reduce the risk of car crash by up to 50% and avoid unexpected dangers on the road.
The software exercises focus on the visual systems in the brain that are essential to safe driving. It strengthens the brain’s ability to process what you see so that you can focus better, keep track of more on the road and react faster to the unexpected – such as a car swerving into your lane or a dog running into the road.
What is the difference between DriveSharp and InSight?
InSight is the “parent” product of DriveSharp. DriveSharp includes two of the five InSight exercises—the ones targeting visual skills most important for driving.
I already own InSight. Will DriveSharp benefit me too?
If you own InSight, you do not need to purchase DriveSharp. The two DriveSharp exercises are already contained in InSight. By using InSight, you’ll experience the same visual benefits as with DriveSharp, plus some.
I already own the Brain Fitness Program. Will DriveSharp benefit me too?
Absolutely! DriveSharp exercises visual processing, rather than the auditory processing of the Brain Fitness Program. The two complement one another nicely.
What exercises does InSight include?
The two interactive exercises in Drivesharp are Jewel Diver™ and Road Tour™. Both exercises feature enjoyable, game-like elements combined with science-based visual tasks that make the program clinically effective.
- Jewel Diver Works out your divided attention by asking you to track multiple jewels moving around the ocean.
- Road Tour Improves your “useful field of view” (UFOV), the area over which you can quickly and accurately see details without moving your eyes or head.
What is useful field of view?
Your “useful field of view” is the area over which you can quickly and accurately see details without moving your eyes or head. Useful Field of View (UFOV®) is also a visual training and assessment technology that has been investigated in dozens of published studies, many funded by the National Institutes of Health. Developed by Visual Awareness Inc., UFOV has been proven to increase driving skill and safety and reliably predict an individual’s risk of being involved in a traffic accident. UFOV training can also help people complete activities of daily living more quickly and accurately and help older adults maintain overall health-related quality of life. In early 2008, Posit Science acquired Visual Awareness Inc and UFOV. UFOV is incorporated into the exercises featured in the InSight program.
What are the benefits that I can get from using DriveSharp?
In addition to focusing better, tracking more on the road and reacting faster, DriveSharp has been clinically proven to:
- Reduce the risk of car crash by up to 50%
- Stop up to 22 feet sooner when traveling at 55 mph
- Increase “useful field of view” by up to 200% (the area over which you can extract information in a single glance)
How does DriveSharp achieve these benefits?
Users train their brain by using two software exercises included in DriveSharp. These exercises are challenging, interactive, easy-to-use and fun. Plus, they are scientifically designed to enhance the visual system by:
- Improving ‘Divided Attention’ This skill enables you to track multiple moving objects at once, such as cars at a busy intersection or people crossing the street from different directions.
- Expanding ‘Useful Field of View’ (the area over which you can extract information in a single glance.) For a driver watching the road ahead, improving this ability will help you notice a child running into the street after a ball or see another car that’s trying to merge into your lane.
These two cognitive abilities are vital to safe driving and help you:
- Notice potential hazards ahead of time
- Protect yourself and your passengers
- Maintain (or improve) overall driving skill
Is DriveSharp proven to work? Have studies been published?
Yes. The science behind DriveSharp was built on research funded by the National Institutes of Health and designed and tested by a global team of more than fifty scientists. DriveSharp has been proven effective in many clinical studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and other prestigious science journals. These studies show that people who use the exercises in DriveSharp experience many driving benefits.
Can I use DriveSharp if I wear glasses?
You can still use InSight if you wear corrective lenses. If you can watch and listen to a television at a regular distance and at a reasonable volume, you will be able to use the program with no problems.
What if I don’t have much computer experience?
Our programs are designed to be used just by pointing and clicking—not much more difficult than using a television remote control.
What are the minimum computer requirements for DriveSharp?
DriveSharp is available for Macs and PCs.
