Company Background
Posit Science Corporation is focused on using patented technology to create a line of playable software tools/games to arrest and reverse the cognitive decline associated with aging, which can lead to Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s and senile dementia. The functional design of the software is based on proprietary research conducted by Posit co-founder (and UCSF professor), Dr. Michael Merzenich. That research earlier led to the creation of a successful public company, Scientific Learning Corporation, which addresses similar problems as they apply to child populations.
Position Overview
The Product Marketing Director is responsible for defining, launching and managing the company’s portfolio of product and service offerings. This key individual will work with product development, research, customer delight and the rest of the marketing organization to establish product and marketing requirements and drive delivery of effective, fun and engaging brain fitness products. This leader will be a customer champion and drive the complete life cycle of offering development as well as customer experience. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing.
Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the effort to establish and maintain the value proposition and business case for each product and service.
- Clearly define product features and end-to-end customer experience
- Incorporate requirements from all stakeholder groups and sell concept throughout organization
- Lead the team in creating and developing the product pipeline
- Be the customer advocate, with in-depth knowledge of multi-audience needs - deliver features and benefits that drive adoption
- Lead development of product positioning, marketing and collateral materials as well as sales tools, sales training and customer education materials
- Develop write and maintain a comprehensive product marketing requirements document (MRD) that provides clear direction for Product Development and engineering and incorporates needs of other stakeholder groups (including marketing and customer delight)
- Understand , position against, and clearly articulate benefits relative to competitive products and inaction
- Provide core messaging for product benefits, features and the brain fitness product category
- Provide consistent, thoughtful, credible leadership on product issues, balancing the many options and needs presented from different stakeholders
Required Experience/Background/Skills:
- Seven to ten+ years experience in product management or product marketing, in consumer or software products/services company. Experience marketing software-based services to consumers 40+ highly desirable
- Proven success in taking new products and services from concept through market launch. Experience with new products in a new category - a plus.
- A demonstrated solid understanding of the full product development process, including the necessity for extensive cross-functional collaboration
- Proven track record of an analytical approach to problem solving, and project management.
- Experience in self-help/healthcare technology products or professional/medical channels is a plus
- Excellent leadership, team-building, communication and cross-functional skills. Has built and lead a Product Marketing or Product Management function
- Entrepreneurial approach with a bias for action and a demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in the absence of extensive information and analysis
- An experienced professional with a broad set of skills, possessing the flexibility to thrive in an early-stage environment where much is being created for the first time and needs are evolving rapidly.
- Excellent communication skills: writes and speaks persuasively
- Resourceful – past experience developing a long term (12-month) strategy while getting started on a short-term (90-day) plan
Education:
- BA/BS required; Advanced degree desirable
