It’s Called Generalization (A Conversation With My Sister)
{Editor’s note: this is excerpted from a real conversation JP had with his sister, speaking about their mother.}
Sis: “You never said anything about her having more energy.”
Me: “What are you talking about?”
Sis: “You said it was brain fitness software, that it was going to improve her ability to focus and remember more.”
Me: “And it did! She called me last week after she finished the whole program and told me that she didn’t feel like she was walking into a room and forgetting why she was there. She said she’s really feeling on top of her game mentally.”
Sis: “That’s not what she told me!”
Me: “What did she tell you?”
Sis: “That she has more energy since completing the program. A lot more energy!”
Me: “That’s great!”
Sis: “For you! I could hardly keep up with her before but now? She’s going to wear me out.”
Me: “It’s called generalization, sister of mine. The program is designed to improve focus, concentration and memory but people often see benefits manifest in other aspects of their lives…other aspects of their being. It’s one of the really cool things that we were able to prove in the IMPACT study with Mayo Clinic. People really feel an impact on many aspects of their being.”
Sis: “You’re right. It is really exciting that the software can have that sort of impact. But the next time she wears me out you’re going to hear about it!”
Me: “Sis, I can’t wait for the call…”
